Sneha Somasekar
Co President

Sneha Somasekar is a third year student at UCSD pursuing a double major in Economics and Molecular Biology. She was inspired to study finance and economics after an internship with Tora Trading Services. Sneha hopes to travel around the world and work abroad. Sneha enjoys reading, listening to music, and playing card games with friends.

Michael Tam
Co President

Michael Tam is majoring in Management Science at UCSD. Having lived in both Hong Kong and the US, Michael has had international work experience. His internships at Citigroup (now Morgan Stanley) Smith Barney, Nicholas Applegate Capital Management and two years of working with UIS has gained him a unique leadership experience and background in finance. A concept to creation personality, Michael's future aspirations are to create and manage a global business. When not studying or coordinating for UIS, Michael enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, snorkeling, and volunteering at his local animal shelter.

Herman Chan
Vice President, External Affairs

Herman Chan is a junior at Thurgood Marshall College majoring in Management Science with a Mathematics minor. He is the portfolio manager of Student Foundation Investment Committee, an student run endowment fund that manges a $170,000 portfolio. He is also a CFA level 1 candidate. With a strong background in asset management and actuarial science, he wishes to break into the asset management industry and becomes a proprietary trader at a top tier hedge fund.

Michael Miyake
Vice President, Internal Relations

Michael Miyake is currently working to obtain a B.S. in Management Science, Michael enjoys working with other motivated UCSD students while lending his own expertise and skills developed through internship experience--most notably with HD Supply. Aside from studying, Michael enjoys DJ-ing, breakdancing, photography, eating, and online shopping.

Tim Liu
Vice President, Research

Tim is a Management Science major with a minor in Computer Science. He is currently a CFA level 2 candidates and has fun researching and theorizing macro investment strategies. Tim is currently an intern at Pacific Corporate Group, a local private equity firm. Tim hopes to work for a global macro hedge fund someday and eventually start his own. In his free time, Tim likes to read think-tank publications and play tennis.

Armand Kok
Vice President, Education

Armand is a Management Science Major with a minor in Mathematics. Armand is currently a level one CFA candidate and will be taking the test this coming December, 2009. Armand interned for PricewaterhouseCoopers over the summer and wishes to pursue a career in finance/accounting. Aside from holding workshops and studying, Armand enjoys playing tennis and video games.

Uyen June Le
Director of Finance

Uyen June Le is the current Director of Internal Finance at the Undergraduate Investment Society. June anticipates to graduate with a B.S. in Management Science and a minor in Accounting at UCSD. Her experience as a teller at JPMorgan Chase Bank and as an intern at the International Financial & Insurance Services has taught her to stay focused. As a hobby, she enjoys traveling and exploring new attractions.

Carrie Gan
President 06-07

Carrie served UIS as an internal relations committee member from 2005-2006 and as president during 2006-2007. During her term, she was challenged and inspired by the "UIS Culture" of hard work, dedication, and its commitment to personal and professional development of its members. After graduating with a degree in Economics from UCSD, Carrie went on to pursue her Master's in Education at UCLA. In 2008, she partnered with actress Hayden Panettiere to start the charity website PanettiereCloset.com and has helped raise funds for the Whaleman Foundation. She recently taught in the Los Angeles inner-city of Watts, and is now currently developing writing curriculum for a kids' educational software. Carrie enjoys meeting new people and volunteering her time with many non-profit organizations including the National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP-OC), Asian Professional Exchange, and Asian Business Association (ABA-OC). In her spare time, Carrie enjoys skeet shooting, riding her motorcycle on the weekends, and playing tennis. She is a contestant of the 2010 Miss Los Angeles Chinatown pageant.

Jeff Shiau
President 07-08

Jeff Shiau is currently the co-founder and president of Memee Inc., an early stage socio-enviro venture in Cupertino. The company spends its efforts primarily in designing sustainable product solutions tailored to solve waste problems in peoples’ social lives. Jeff graduated from U.C. San Diego in summer 2008 with a Psychology B.S. and Economics B.A. During his time in La Jolla, he served a term as the president for the Undergraduate Investment Society and held a year-long internship with Los Angeles based strategy consulting firm, Growthink Consulting. He also participated in various extra curricular activities, including a psychological study of inner-city youth participation in a La Jolla elementary after-school program. He finds personal interests in martial arts, rock climbing, and San Francisco Bay Area food and culture. He loves the San Jose Sharks, and despises Anaheim and Calgary. He also obsessively follows the fight game.

Arpan Agrawal
Vice President 07-08

Arpan was Vice-President, External Relations during the 2007-2008 school year and responsible for building much of the sponsorship and professional speaker series relationships. He graduated from UCSD in March '08 with a Bachelor's degree in Management Science and has been working in the Finance group at Google since June 2008. He remains active in mentoring UCSD students through the UCSD Financial Professionals Network, a sister organization to the UIS, and hopes to soon see UCSD recognized for producing top undergraduate talent.

Isaac Lee
Director of Content 05-06

Issac was involved with UIS from 04-06 where he was the Director of Content (Official) as well as the Director of Awesomeness (Unofficial - pending approval by Ann Ko, Sunali, & Tammi). He empowered hundreds of students with investing & financial knowledge through workshops that he created and taught specifically-tailored to help students. Since graduating in 2006, Isaac joined the Marine Corps and has served in dangerous areas throughout the world to include Iraq and New Orleans, LA. He now works in the internet marketing industry in Los Angeles.

Frank Chiu
LPL Project Manager

Frank graduated from Revelle College in 2006 with a degree in Management Science. He became even more involved with UIS after graduation and currently serves as an Honorary Alumni. His role at UIS is to provide inspiration, support, guidance, and help plan for UIS's future. His continued involvement with UIS after graduation is a testament to his belief in the organization's value for current UCSD students and the alumni network. He currently works at LPL Financial as a Project Manager, primarily dealing with internal projects on business process efficiency improvements. His expertise resides in investment finance, business consulting, and making you laugh.

Weihua Cheng
Bank of America Associate Underwriter for Senior Debt

Weihua was part of the External Committee during '05-'06 and returned to be Director of Marking in '07-'08. She was part of numerous sponsorship and marketing initiatives over the years. After graduating in 2008, she went through the credit training program at Bank of America and is currently an Associate Underwriter for senior debt in the Commercial Bank in Los Angeles. As an alumni, she tries to contribute to the growth of UIS through officer retreats and strategic planning.
